ASL Corner: TENDED-TO (or “ping!”)
By Timothy Johnston

ASL expression of TENDED-TO for this issue is popularly and fondly known as Deaf slang, PING as seen in the photos.
PING is the Deaf slang used by many due to the mouth movement when signing out this TENDED-TO expression.
TENDED-TO is signed out exactly like SENSITIVE sign using either two different movement with the first one as seen in the photos and the other one exactly like SMART sign movement.
Its english version is the same. It is like “that is the typical of himself/herself”, “that’s his/her tendency”, “it seems to be like the habit of his/her”, etc.
Examples:
- Shelly TENDED-TO worry too much for nothing.
- Choi TENDED-TO coming late, late!
- Oh, that is always his PING for being so helpful.
- Tuez PING to be very exaggerated in telling stories.
- Andrew TENDED-TO be overly silly!
